RENING, performance in Wärenstams gallery

RENING performance takes the form of a ceremonial act. I wash blood-stained white fabrics while standing at the center of the gallery in a cube like frame, as recorded voices play through a radio. These voices recount real stories from Iran’s blackout during days of massacres, told by different witnesses. The performance serves as a reminder that the number of innocent civilians being slaughtered by powers and terrorist regimes continues to raise up as part of our daily reality.

RENING, performance in Borås storaTorget

The artist washed textiles dyed blood red and then carefully placed them in the snow in the square, where the wet bundles of fabric quickly stiffened in the cold. In the end, the square was filled with what looked like dead bodies. The work is a protest against what  happened in January in the artist’s former homeland, Iran, where the regime brutally kills, abuses, and persecutes people who demand freedom and democracy.
